South Wairarapa District Council welcomed its newest elected member, Peter Biggs CNZM, at a Council meeting in Martinborough in October.
Mayor Fran Wilde welcomed Councillor Biggs to the Council table. He will participate in Council decision-making and governance on behalf of the community.
‘Biggsy’, as he is fondly known within the community, is co-founder and Chair of the Featherston Booktown Karukatea Festival, Aotearoa New Zealand’s only official Booktown. The festival celebrated its 12th anniversary this year. Biggsy is also Chair of the International Organisation of Booktowns which has 30 Booktown members (including Featherston) around the world. Mr Biggs was declared elected on Monday 5 October following the Council’s Featherston Ward by-election. The by-election was held to fill one vacancy on Council following Councillor Colin Olds resignation earlier this year.
