We would like to thank everyone who came to our drop-in sessions during the Engagement Week.
Every triennium, Martinborough Community Board develops a three-year plan to let the community know about their work. To do this effectively we need to engage with our community to determine the issues that are most important to them so that we can advocate for these in the annual and long-term planning process carried out by the Council.
Residents spent a considerable period of time engaged with the themes on our boards covering a range of wellbeing areas including social, economic, environmental and culture and heritage. They identified priorities and added thoughtful comments and suggestions.
Early feedback indicates some emerging priority areas within each wellbeing theme, supported by a range of thoughtful comments. Issues raised include water and rivers, village character, transport and bridges, lighting, particularly in the square, aged care, housing and childcare.

Aged care is a particular area of concern, with some residents noting the impact of Wharekaka’s closure and the challenges faced when a partner requires residential support that is no longer available locally.
We are currently collating results from our Community Wellbeing survey. If you have not had a chance to complete the survey it is still available on our Facebook and the Council website until 27th August. swdc.govt.nz/mcb-community-engagement/
Once the survey closes, we will combine the Drop In session contributions with the Wellbeing survey and publish the conclusions.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
The Board is also working on the development of local neighbourhood emergency support systems. We currently have a survey on Emergency Preparedness which can be found on our Facebook page and the Council website. Paper copies are available at the library, Heartlands and at Pain & Kershaw. Thank you, everyone, who has completed the survey so far.
When the results are collated, we will be working with the community to establish neighbourhood support systems in the event of a major emergency.
MARTINBOROUGH COMMUNITY BOARD GRANTS UPDATE
The next funding round for this financial year will be in August 2026.
Applications open this month on the 10 August for the $10,000 that is available for this round. Members of the community are invited to apply for funding. Details for grant applications and the Grant Policy can be found under our Martinborough Community Board on the website.
If you’d like to meet with the Martinborough Community Board, informal drop-in sessions are held on the first Saturday morning of each month at the Town Hall from 10am to 12noon and public participation is open to the public at the start of every formal Board meeting. The next meeting is on Monday 31 August.
