This month we reflect on the wild weather events of the past few weeks and that are still impacting several communities in South Wairarapa. Our thoughts go out to those affected and we hope for calmer weather in the coming months.
Some of our call outs were weather related but it’s been a quiet period so far. Thank you for all being vigilant, well prepared and looking out for one another. We recently attended ten medical events, two Fire events and assisted rescue choppers with setting up landing zones and assisting with patient extrication. We also helped homeowners with relieving flooding at residential properties.
Thank you for all being vigilant, well prepared and looking out for one another.
This month we celebrated within the brigade with several members completing courses to upskill and be prepared for the nature of our callouts. We had five of our members complete their medical co-response certification, a two-day intensive medical course focusing on skills such as mass incident response, trauma and cardiac arrest. Congratulations to recruit fire fighters Nadia Lamnao, Sarah Pringle and Ricky Tannat along with DCFO Craig Nicholson and fire fighter Chantelle Struthers for gaining this qualification. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to training and upskilling.
CFO John Crighton and DCFO Craig Nicholson recently attended a Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMs) course. This course focused on a management framework to allow effective incident response in events such as hazardous substances, multiple or mass casualties, search and rescue, transportation accidents and fire to name a few.
We might all be volunteers, but we continue to prioritise our training so that we can be prepared not only for the brigade but for each other, our crew mates and for you, our community.
We are always looking for more volunteers so if you’re keen to learn more about what we do please get in touch or check out our Facebook page. We train on a Tuesday night so pop in and say hi and we’ll show you around.
