This year’s Agricultural Day was extra special because it was our last one at Martinborough School before heading off to college next year. Ag Day has always been our favourite day, so we wanted to make the most of it.

As Year 8 students, we ran our own stall for the first time, with mini putt and ring toss. There were lots of other fun activities too, including Deal or No Deal, Chuck a Duck, Ping Pong Connect 4 and basketball shooting. It was great seeing everyone getting involved.
The day began with sand saucers and flower arrangements. Charlie was surprised to win the sand saucer section. “I wasn’t expecting to win, but then I remembered what I was taught in the juniors about symmetry, colour and covering all the sand, and I won!”
Poppy enjoyed creating her fairy garden, while Tessa particularly liked the photography section.
We all put plenty of effort into the baking competition. Tessa made a cake that looked like a piece of Swiss cheese, complete with tiny mice. Poppy created a cowboy-themed cake, and Charlie made a New Zealand White Ferns cricket shirt cake.
One of the biggest highlights was bringing our animals. Poppy’s calf, Ricky, was more interested in the crowd than the competition, but still placed third in ringcraft and second in care and condition. Tessa’s lamb, Bobby, came first in ringcraft and second in care and condition.
“I’m really going to miss Ag Day because it’s my favourite day,” Tessa said.
We were impressed by the effort all the children put into preparing their animals, especially the kindy children.
Agricultural Day is a special part of Martinborough School, bringing everyone together to celebrate creativity, learning and animal care. Although we are sad this was our last Ag Day as students, we have wonderful memories to take with us.
Thank you to everyone who helped organise the day, our sponsors and judges for making it such a success.
A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, Sharps Farm Feeds, PGG Wrightson Martinborough, Halter, FMG and Blue Pacific Minerals, for your valued support.
