Annual General Meeting
The recent AGM which, alongside the essential administration that comes with being part of a large organisation, also gave us a chance to welcome brigade members from across the greater Wairarapa region. We were genuinely humbled by how many turned up. Their support felt like a sign of things to come. With our new leadership team – CFO John Crighton and DCFO Craig Nicholson – we’re focused on strengthening connections with neighbouring brigades, and the turnout was a clear reflection of that direction.

The AGM also formally recognised the mahi, dedication and commitment our members bring to Fire and Emergency and to the Martinborough Brigade. Several awards were presented, and we’re proud to share these achievements with you.
The Thomas Family Trophy – Firefighter of the Year – SFF Simon Daly
Simon was recognised for his outstanding dedication as a Senior Firefighter, Medical First Responder, and brigade Welfare Rep. His reliability, professionalism, and skill as a driver and pump operator earned him the highest number of nominations from brigade members.
Charlie Johns Shield – Most Musters – QFF Corina Lawson & QFF Jenna Matchett
Corina and Jenna jointly received this award for their exceptional attendance at brigade training nights. With attendance well over 90% for the year, both have demonstrated a strong commitment to ongoing training and maintaining high operational readiness. Their consistency means they are ready to respond at any moment and able to pass on valuable knowledge to newer members.
Chief’s Award – Medical First Responder Kathryn Ching
Kathryn received the Chief’s Award for her unwavering dedication to the First Response Unit. Attending more callouts than anyone in the brigade and, with her extensive knowledge and EMT experience, plays a key role in making the unit one of the most successful in the country. The only unit of its kind working alongside Wellington Free Ambulance, her professional relationship with WFA helps ensure an exceptional standard of patient care.
