Martinborough Community Board

By James Brodie, Chair, Martinborough Board Sept 2026

Considine Park

The Considine Park Users Group is developing a new plan for Considine Park. We thank the community members who stepped forward to join the group and represent local voices. We also consulted with Martinborough School, Martinborough Kindergarten and local early childcare centres, receiving a range of exciting and thoughtful suggestions. The need for a toilet block at the park was raised by many people, and Council has budgeted for one in the 2028 Long Term Plan. This will be a welcome addition, as the lack of facilities currently limits how the park can be and is used.

We’re seeking landscape architectural advice and will then illustrate the proposed concepts for the community to review before the plan is formally signed off. Implementing the plan will require a joint effort between Council and the community.

A Heated Swimming Pool?

One item of particular interest for families with young children is the suggestion to explore heating the swimming pool. Warmer water would allow earlier morning and evening use, increase participation in school swimming lessons, and potentially support the return of an earlymorning swimming club. We’re keen to hear community feedback on this idea.

Wellbeing and Emergency Preparedness surveys

Thank you to everyone that completed our surveys. We are currently collating the final results and will publish a summary in the next edition of the STAR. The results will form the basis of our triennium plan and submissions to the Council for the Long Term Plan.
