At Martinborough Kindergarten the tamariki have been engaging in some hands-on learning with Martin the Toymaker.
Making wooden toys has been a long-standing experience for the children at kindy where they engage in woodwork sessions with an expert toy maker.
Martin guides the children to learn about wood craft and build on their skills from hammering, sawing, using hand-held, battery powered and electric tools. They learn vital skills through their mahi such as measurement, prediction, perseverance, listening and following instructions and the best part is they see their work reflected in their learning environment.
How empowering for our tamariki to engage in play with toys they’ve made themselves. Come along and visit and check out some of the toys we’ve been making.
