Māori Language Week turns 51

Sept 2026

Māori Language Week (Te Wiki o te Reo Māori) turns 51 this year and Council staff in South Wairarapa will mark its significance by sharing kai and korero over lunch one day leading up to the week.

The first Māori Language Week was celebrated across the motu (country) in 1975. This year it will be celebrated nationwide from Monday 14 to Monday 21 September.

Kia kaha te reo Māori.
