Martinborough has only one public drinking fountain.
The good news is that it is in the right place being attached to the Children’s play park and Town Hall on Texas Street. The less good news is that it is located 60 meters away from the actual play and skate park areas and not clearly visible. The bad news is that it is the only place in Martinborough township where the public can access free drinkable water.
The sports fields, the pump track, Considine Park and other leisure areas do not have public potable and accessible water. At least, that’s according to an AI search for free, accessible local drinking water in Martinborough.
Compare that to Madrid – a city of many more people but at the same latitude as Martinborough.
There the citizens can access 90 public drinking fountains per square kilometer. The city area has 3,438 publicly accessible water fountains. To be fair, that’s for 3.5 million people.
But in Martinborough, given the changing weather landscape, is it time to upgrade public access to fresh drinking water?
Not just in Martinborough – but across all the district’s towns and villages. Like on main streets?
We have plenty of non-drinkable water most of the time but publicly accessible water not so much.
Children – and visitors – all have a need for a hydration break.
