The Martinborough Bowling Club AGM was held at the clubrooms on Sunday 19 July.
A new Committee was appointed with Maryanne Ashworth voted in as the new President, taking over from Tanya Wheeler who has stepped into the Secretary role. Hayden Frew remains as Treasurer and Mark O’Brien has stepped up to take on the tireless role of Greenkeeper.
Other Committee Members include Ken Paddon, Warwick Bullock and Janalle Frew.
The Committee unanimously voted to make Ken and Colleen Paddon Life members after their years of tireless voluntary work for the club.
Following on from a very successful Neighbourhood Café sponsored fours tournament over Anzac weekend the green was closed for a much-needed upgrade. This was deemed a necessary move to bring the greens up to tournament standards and to enable the club to provide a quality playing experience for local players.
This is an extensive job that involves uprooting the current green and replacing it with new turf. The new Greens are not expected to be playable until late this year which will have a minor effect for Thursday night twilight bowls with a later start date than usual, teams will be updated with new start date.
Martinborough continues to punch above its weight for the size of the club.
Over the next few weeks Martinborough has several players competing in the National Champion of Champions. The Ladies Pairs, Triples and Fours, plus the Men’s Triples and the Mixed 2x4x2s all have Martinborough players competing. These are played around the country against the winning teams from all New Zealand regions with some games being televised live.
Once the replenishment of the green is complete, the club is aiming to have a Tuesday club night where all members, full playing and social, are welcome to come along for a practice or a bit of competition play.
