Aorangi Restoration Trust appoints their Development Lead and seeks new Trustees

July 2026

The Aorangi Restoration Trust is delighted to announce the appointment of Anna Burrows as their Development Lead. Anna brings to the Trust a wealth of experience in the field of ecology and land care as well as an Honours Science degree majoring in Conservation and Ecology.

The Trust’s current priorities continue to be focused on the control of predator and ungulate populations within the park, the adjacent coastline and moana and on reforestation of marginal farmland, across the South Wairarapa landscape, to ensure that we have lowland forests that complement our native upland forests. Our native birdlife needs both to thrive. It will also be good for the native birdlife to have corridors of native bush from the Remutaka to Aorangi ranges.

The Aorangi Restoration Trust is currently looking for volunteers to help with traplines. We can support volunteers with training, a toolkit and a contribution towards vehicle costs. Trust Chair Joe Howells said that “it works really well if volunteers can pair up – it is more fun and easier work for two people” so if you are keen and perhaps have a friend you can nudge along, please get in touch with Joe on 027 597 2667 or email aorangitrust@gmail.com .

We are also  seeking some new Trustees who share a passion for the future of our environment and community.  We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with leadership experience in strategic thinking, governance capability, community networking, business experience, farming knowledge, conservation interest, fundraising ability, or simply a willingness to contribute thoughtfully and constructively. Trustees do not need to be environmental experts; what matters most is commitment, integrity, and a desire to help guide a respected local organisation doing important work.

People interested in learning more about becoming a Trustee are encouraged to contact the Trust for an informal discussion by emailing aorangitrust@gmail.com.
