Spring Fling is back

Aug 2013

Last year a Martinborough Grandmother wanted to give back to an organisation that had helped he Grandson. Life Flight has flown him to life saving care on four missions. She, along with a small group of likeminded community members, set about putting together a fundraiser to benefi t Life Flight. And so, “Spring Fling – Take Flight” was born. In September The Village Café in Martinborough was the venue for a fundraising dinner. The guests were entertained by live Jazz whilst enjoying predinner canapés. And, during the fabulous, fine dining courses, guest speakers addressed the large crowd with their experiences of the Life Flight Trust.

The organisers were blown away by the amount of donations from community businesses for the auction, which saw buoyant bidding amongst the guests. The night was a huge success with $20,000 raised for the Life Flight Trust – a phenomenal result from a
community supported event.

Since then a number of people from our community have needed urgent help and transportation to life saving care. Life Flight has flown 133 missions to our region in the last 12 months. Each mission requires a shortfall of $2500 to be raised from the community and, given our remoteness, limited hospital services locally, we need to support this crucial service. And so….

…Spring Fling is back this year! The enthusiastic
organisers have decided to also support two additionalMartinborough charities, the Martinborough Youth Trust and Martinborough School Computer Trust. The Martinborough Youth Trust enables the young people of our region to receive opportunities which
otherwise they may not have had. The Martinborough School Computer Trust raises funds to invest in new IT equipment for the School.

Three fabulous “Movie nights” at the Circus Cinema have been planned for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of October with the fi nal night culminating in a “Red Carpet Event” for Life Flight. Each night guests will enjoy nibbles and a glass of vino, before sitting back in the comfy chairs of the Circus theatres to view a film supporting their chosen charity. The movies will each be selected from the 2013 NZ International Film Festival. For more details check out the Facebook page www.facebook.com/SpringFlingMartinborough. So Ladies and Gentleman, roll up, roll up it’s going to be another fabulous Spring Fling Event.
