Five new recruits have been accepted in the Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade and have begun training in preparation for the week long basic course in Rotorua later in the year.
Chantelle Struthers is owner/operator of Reload Bar and Restaurant and coaches the Martinborough Cheerleaders (ages 6 – 11). Brent Mackie bartends at the Martinborough Hotel and has a keen interest in photography. Callum Tannant is a driver/operator for Oldfields and is a Madcaps performer. Chris Hooson is EMT Paramedic for Wellington Free Ambulance and a member of Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1. Zoe Sinclair works for Margrain Vineyard Café and enjoys adventure activities such as leadership building on sailing ships Discovery and Spirit of Adventure.
They attend weekly recruit training on Monday with trainer Dan Meehan and join Brigade training on Tuesdays. All agree the biggest challenges are learning fire commands and terminology while tuning up muscles to perform new skills required for volunteer fire service.
