Players from around the Lower North Island came to Martinborough recently to enjoy a weekend of grass court tennis in the annual ‘Over The Hill’ doubles and mixed doubles tennis tournament. Yet again this two day event was a success with good numbers in attendance, competitive tennis and fantastic weather. It really was a great opportunity to show case what a wonderful facility we have here in our community.
Tim Pickering and Luke Atkinson, Martinborough locals, took out the men’s doubles competition in a well fought match over the Wellington combination of Gary Katene and Garth Bryan.
In the women’s competition, the Martinborough pairing of Libby Paterson and Rhona Lovell came a close runner-up to Leonie Campbell and Kerry Noble from Wellington. Rhona then paired up with her husband Bruce Lovell to win the combines event against Trevor Dine and Felicity Steel from Wellington. A fantastic effort from our Martinborough club members.
