A Snowball fundraiser is being held to assist New Zealand kids who have kidney disease. Each of the 13 Wairarapa Institutes was given $15 to see how much they could raise from this initial amount.
Martinborough run a $50 meat raffle with the winning ticket being no 111 Nathan Wylie. Congratulations. Our thanks to Scotty’s Butchery, and the Kitchener Street Dairy for selling the tickets.
Another project has been making Teddies for Tragedies called Trauma Teddies. Each bear has a bag with a draw string that it can fit into. The Teddies in their bags are sent to the organisers in Hawkes Bay for distribution, not only to children in New Zealand but all around the world where children are in crisis.
Doctors have assured that the bears will be a great comfort to the children who become more relaxed and so recover quicker.
Many members have made one or more but for one Martinborough member , Dorothy Hatt, my last count of the bears she has made was 25. Well done Dorothy.
The Institutes do amazing work for the communities but find it hard to attract new members as so many of the younger generation need to work. However in isolated country areas where there is not much in the way of social gatherings for those younger they are only too willing to belong and find not only companionship but learn many homemaking and survival skills.
