Wharekaka News

Oct 2012

We welcome our new Registered Nurse to Wharekaka. Judith Lee comes with a wealth of experience in clinical nursing and aged care. We thank Judy McDonald for stepping in and helping us out over the past couple of months.

Our residents are making the most of the lovely sunny weather which has been showing an increasing presence lately. Residents have enjoyed morning tea in the sun, participating in gardening activities with Wendy and Janet. Weekly and monthly drives have also been popular to see all the spring flowers and blossom.

Inside we are as busy as usual. Residents continue to enjoy daily exercises, rummy, knitting and spinning group, board games, manicures, indoor bowls, quiots, happy hour and craft days. Our residents have a busier social life than I do!!

On Monday 1st October we celebrated the International Day of the Older person with a high tea and fancy dress. Watch for the photos next month.

We have entertainment by Lance Naysmith on Wednesday 17th October at 11am.  The community is most welcome to join our family for this. Lance plays guitar and sings all the old songs.

Thank you to Connie Taylor for being our regular housie caller. Also the Tuesday afternoon tea ladies who come in and make sandwiches for our residents to enjoy with their cup of tea.

Our Pilate classes with Jane on Monday mornings are proving to be a much anticipated activity on the weekly calendar. Jane has boundless enthusiasm and energy which has everyone laughing and enjoying themselves.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Pilate class and Thai Chi classes held on Thursday at 11am.

If you know of anyone in the community who may benefit from joining our activities programme please come in and have a chat with Wendy or give her a call on 3069701.  Transport can be arranged and a delicious home cooked midday is provided before you are returned to your home.
