WELCOME THE SPRING BY COMING TO THE ROSE SHOW

October 10, 2011 October 2011 No Comments

October’s here already but local gardeners still have time to get ready for this year’s Rose and Flower Show; an annual event with a new name! There’s traditionally 100 days between pruning and those first blooms but lots of growth already appearing means 2011 is looking good for some lovely exhibits.
The Show is planned for Saturday 5th November, so the Committee are hoping it will be a cracker! The Town Hall is the venue. Exhibitors can stage their entries from 8a.m. and judging will start at 10.30. Entry is free.
Although the Rose Classes are the traditional ones, each year there are at least as many entries in other sections. Cut Flowers including the Irises are very popular and for the creative, there’s ‘Floral Art’. If shrubs, pot plants, fruit and vegies are your specialty, give the ‘Home & Garden’ classes a go. Last year there was a big entry in the Children’s Section so the Committee are hoping this will continue – our competitors of the future!
A brand new trophy will be added for 2011, making a total of 18. The ‘Pinot Villas’ trophy is for the best ‘Young Person’s Floral Art’ entry. This class is open to children aged ten to 14 years.
Another ‘first’ – plans are in place for a session for exhibitors and other interested folk, taken by one of the Judges, on selecting, preparing and showing roses. This will be at 2p.m.
Martinborough Property Brokers provide great sponsorship for this now very traditional event; which hopes to make some money to donate to local charities. Schedules will be available in mid-October round town. The Show is also open to the public in the afternoon – entry by donation. Pay a visit and enjoy!
