Toast, Oscar winner & Ukulele help out marathon fundraising effort
The outstanding teams at Toast Martinborough, Tirohana Estate vineyard, Trade Me auctions, Bret McKenzie, Jemaine Clement and Andy Morley-Hall from the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra, amongst others, offered their support to a fundraising effort by Alexandra (Alex) Barton for the CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust.
Wairarapa resident Alex Barton is running the New York Marathon on 4th Nov 2012 with the goal of raising $20,000 for CatWalk, an amazing charity founded by the extraordinary & inspiring Catriona Williams after she suffered an horrendous accident HYPERLINK “http://www.catwalk.org.nz/”www.catwalk.org.nz. Alex is spending the next 6 months shamelessly asking for money through donations.
Catwalk was an obvious choice to raise money for. In 1995 Alex had a work injury which left her partially paralysed for a period of time before having a spinal fusion in 1997. Alex’s injury was a fine line between spending the rest of her life in a wheel chair or not. The following 5 years were tough with constant pain & problems associated with the 4 screws in her spine becoming loose due to a failed bone graft, until eventually one of the titanium screws broke. “As my five brothers used to say “Alex, you’ve always had one screw loose, now you’ve got 4!!”
