Thank You to Blood Donors

July 7, 2012 July 2012 No Comments

It doesn’t hurt a bit.

The 109 blood donors and nearly blood donors deserve a huge thank you for coming to the P and K Blood Day at the Town Hall on 14th June 87 units were collected, which was only one less than last year.

This was a good result considering the recent wintry blast caused sixteen people to phone in sick early in the week.

The NZ Blood service was very pleased that the total included 14 new blood donors, however, statistics show that only 4% of eligible people give blood! This includes healthy people aged over 16 years old, weighing over 50 kgs who weren’t in the UK in the seventies (when there was possible exposure to Mad Cow disease). People over 60 years old can still give blood if they have previously been regular donors.

Count Dracula (David Kershaw) did a marvellous job organising the day, ably assisted by Zoe, a Café Medici barista and the Red Cross team.

Perhaps next year more people could consider becoming blood donors to raise the statistics well above 4% for Martinborough at least?
