Masonic Trust keeps Wharekaka up to scratch

September 10, 2024 September 2024 No Comments

In an update, the Wharekaka Auxiliary advises the Masonic Trust has continued to keep the building in good condition and maintain the existing staff.

As most people in Martinborough are aware, there is a moratorium on new buildings in the town so nothing can be done until this is lifted and the water and sewerage systems are sorted out.

The Wharekaka building is constantly in use.

A Mah-Jong group meets weekly on Tuesdays under the auspices of the Auxiliary and makes a contribution to Meals on Wheels.

Chair Pilates for older people on Wednesdays and Bingo for Seniors happens on Mondays.

Meals on Wheels is booming. Around 600 -700 meals a month are distributed from the Wharekaka Kitchen to the three towns of the South Wairarapa by a very active band of volunteers.

The meals are superb – lots of protein and vegetables with a tasty dessert. A huge thank you to Madeline, our chef who has very recently retired and who has been tireless in keeping Meals on Wheels on the road.

And, a warm welcome to Brandon _ who has big shoes to fill but with his experience should have no difficulty.

Thank you so much to the Martinborough community for showing such an interest and in

supporting our fundraising efforts for Meals on Wheels. If anyone is interested in receiving Meals on Wheels or helping as a volunteer driver, please contact Siearn on (06) 306 970.

Thanks to SW Rotary who have recently given Wharekaka Auxiliary money towards the purchase of a large commercial freezer to manage those times when our chef is allowed to take leave!

Watch this space in the future, for the yummy Christmas Baking goodies from the Auxiliary as a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels. Never too early to start planning!

Wharekaka Auxiliary has resumed regular articles in The Martinborough Star because many of us are asked what is happening in and to the facility.

For any of the above activities, consult the Martinborough Community Noticeboard in The Star for details.
