Labour weekend art show

This show was staged in the Martinborough Town Hall at Labour Weekend. There was a good selection of art shown by mostly local artists and eighteen works were sold.
The Useless Kitchen Gadgets competition attracted a good deal of interest and the winner Amelia Diggle of Wellington achieved 14.5 correct answers to win the Martinborough wine pack. The prawn peeler was one that wasn’t guessed!

This year we had a new innovation whereby children could choose a blank canvas, make an original painting and then hang it in the children’s section. These works were auctioned off at the end of the day on the Sunday. The auction proved to be a huge amount of fun with children bidding against parents and grandparents and one little guy was bidding for another child’s work – all in $1 bids. We will repeat this next year.

The number of visitors to the exhibition was down over previous years, probably because of the weather and with Greytown also having an Art Show. Our profit of $2000 will be used to support the Anglican Diocesan Project  which in partnership with Diocese of Kagera, Tanzania has built a secondary school in Ngara. This in an area where only one child in seven has the opportunity to attend beyond year six.

And there will be another show at Labour Weekend 2013 See you there.
