Guy Fawkes Night goes off with a Bang!

December 10, 2012 December 2012 No Comments

Considine Park was the place to be on the night of the 4th of November for the Martinborough Guy Fawkes Community Fireworks display.

What a great night it turned out to be! After a false start due to rain the previous evening, Sunday was cool and clear with no wind. There were lots of fun activities for everyone to enjoy: fire engine rides, a bouncy castle, delicious gourmet burgers, sausages and hot chocolates on sale, and glowsticks to wave about as the night closed in. A real family atmosphere was created thanks to the live music provided by Shane Cater.

There were some fantastic looking guys (and gals) entered in the “Best dressed Guy Competition” which was judged by Heather Gibbs from the Martinborough Community Board and Fire Officer Jacob Hawkins.  Well done to all the participants and especially to the winning entries:  Ruby Broom, Christina Kirkup and Ariella Stafford. It was particularly exciting to see all the guys go on the enormous bonfire and watch the Fire Brigade light them up! Thanks to the Martinborough Volunteer Fire Service for all their help on the night and keeping an eye on the awesome bonfire.

The most exciting part of the night came when we enjoyed the 15 minute continuous fireworks display sponsored by the Martinborough Community Board.  They were magical and as good as you would have seen in the big cities.  Many thanks to everyone who made the night a huge success.  The evening raised $1,150 which will go towards the Martinborough School Year 7&8 ski trip for 2013. Hope to see you all again same time next year!
