The Grumpy’s were a happy bunch enjoying a great night of food and fun. Who are those three shy one’s a the front?
The golfers have had some good weather at long last and have been turning up in quite remarkable numbers.
The Grumpy’s (pictured) have had their night out and all who went had a real good time. The food was great and the music provided by ‘DJ’ Graham Jacobson was brilliant. They didn’t drink all of the jug count so that will keep till the next social they have.
The 9 holers and 18 holers have been keeping their numbers up and from all accounts enjoying themselves. Thanks to Jill Colton and Mary Desbonnets for your weekly results.
Numbers just keep on getting better for Thursday Club with good turn outs and some good golf being played as well. Ash Reed and Malcolm Wood have both been playing consistently to be in money as well as Patrick Pedlow. Even Trevor Hawkins had his name in the results one week; at the bottom of the list but the best score so far has been Sandra Peterson’s 47 points.
Weekend competitions have been very well patronized too and club matches are being played on time. An increase in numbers entered for the club’s champs; apart from the seniors, the Intermediates, juniors and vets are all quite full.
About 40 visitors from the Petone Workingman’s Club played one Sunday and were very impressed with the state of the course.
The Junior Open was held during the month which was pretty well supported not only from the Wairarapa Clubs but quite a few from outside the district. The prize table was impressive thanks largely to the many sponsors who helped to make the tournament so successful.
Coming up in August is the annual Lefties and Righties tournament – the format changed slightly to include 18 holes of stroke play in the morning followed by foursomes in the afternoon. Entries are still being taken.
The 9 holers have an Open Day on Monday 27 August.
My member this month is Brian Moisley. Although Brian has left the Wairarapa, he is in great health and now residing in a rest home in Auckland. Brian has been Club Captain and President and is now the Club’s Patron. He also has a wicked sense of humour. I heard a story that on bus trips from the rest home to Sky City, the women like to play the pokies until lunch time then when the women have left for lunch Brian plays the machines and picks up quite a few winnings. Good on you Brian, nice to see you still have your sense of humour.
