Fire Brigade

The brigade has been kept on its toes over the last month.

On the second the brigade was called to Pahoa to provide medical assistance. The next call, on the 4th was to an Oxford Street residence where leaves were being burnt causing a smoke nuisance.

A long ride to a call at Pirinoa School on the 16th turned out to be a false alarm. Two days later the call was to give medical assistance at a Cambridge Road residence.

On the same day the brigade was called to the Martinborough Rubbish Transfer Station where a fire had develop in the disposable section. This probably caused by somebody dumping hot ashes. In this case the towns two appliances were assisted by Carterton’s water tanker.

On the 19th the brigade was called to Lake Ferry to assist the ambulance.

On the 23rd the call was to a chimney fire in the former ANZ Bank building on Jellicoe Street.

The final call was to collision between two motor cycles , also on Jellicoe Street.

The end of June also marked the retirement of Deputy Chief John Hunter after sixteen and a half years service. John says that it has been a honour to serve as a fire fighter and wishes to thank the community for all the help given over that time. John intends to now get on with many neglected projects such as restoring his vintage fire engine and painting his boat.
