Council logo to be ‘refreshed’

October 10, 2011 October 2011 No Comments

New Logo
The Councils vision is to be ‘the Best little Council in NZ’. To this end a perception of excellence displayed through the Council’s communication formats is important.

It has been evident for some time that the website and related communication formats are rather dated. Printcraft in Masterton have been hired to redesign these to professional and yet practical standards. Included in the redesign is the Council logo.

Great care has been taken in preserving the main features of the logo while retaining the inherent history of the district displayed. The four hands represent the three boroughs and the county which merged to form the new council. The sheep, mountains, trees and building representing the district’s features. These and the banners have been retained but clarified by removal of the fussy detail. The result is a clean, modern look.

The original logo has an interesting background. Deciding that a logo was required the newly formed Council commissioned local artist Christina Hardy to produce some examples. None proved to find favour and so it was decided that a competition would be held. Of the few entries received the declared winner turned out to be the former Featherston Mayor’s step daughter. Even back then many considered the design to be overly detailed with a decidedly old fashioned look.
