Come on Martinborough – Take flight
We all know how generous the people of Martinborough are. Just look at the fund raising auctions for the medical centre.
Well there is a really worthwhile event taking place on 29th September at the Village Café – a Spring Fling to raise funds for the Life Flight Trust.
I spoke to Jan Hutchings and Jackie Morland at Mitre 10 who have personal experience of the wonderful work that the Life Flight Trust do. Jackie’s son (who is Jan’s grandson) have used the service 4 times and he would not be here if it were not available.
Masterton Hospital do a wonderful job but there are many specialist services not available there and it is particularly important for rural communities like the Wairarapa to be call on a helicopter or plane to transport patients to Wellington or even further afield.
Jan said the Life Flight Trust staff were incredible, going way beyond just the duty of care.
It is such a shame that this Trust is struggle to get the funds necessary to keep this emergency service operating.
Who knows when one of us may need this so get along to the Wine Centre and get your tickets for this great event and worthwhile cause.
The Life Flight Trust helps approximately 1,500 people every year.
Life Flight provide the Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter which ensures that rescues can be achieved when people are out tramping, boating or in road accidents. It is a crucial life-saving tool when speed is critical or access is challenging. Many New Zealanders owe their lives to this service.
Life Flight relies on approximately $2,500 from the community for every mission flown.
