Every wonder where the beautiful bunches daffodils on sale for Cancer Society come from? Each year these keen pickers band together to spend their mornings picking dafs on Jacqui and Alastair  Sutherlands Whangaimoana property. It’s back breaking work! On this morning (Monday 27 August) 13,500 daffodils were picked.

The Martinborough Under 9 Rugby team won the Wairarapa Under 9 competition for 2012, playing Pioneer in the final.  They have been unbeaten for 2 years, winning the Under 8 competition last year.

Kuranui College continues to strengthen its relationships with local primary schools. This term, many of the region’s schools have taken part in Kuranui’s Outdoor Education Academy programme and the college recently opened its doors to primary school students when it welcomed Year 8 students to sample a ‘Day in the Life of a Kuranui Student’. In the last couple of weeks, the college has also invited Year 7 and 8 students to take part in an introductory science workshop. 

“Kuranui College has specialist teachers who are able to share subject-specific expertise,” explained Kuranui College Principal Geoff Shepherd. “The college is encouraging local primary schools to tap into this subject-specific knowledge and resources such as the science and technology labs and outdoor education facilities and equipment.  The introduction of intensive day-long workshops is a good practical way of being able to do this.  … Continue Reading

Martinborough – still a Town Board with a population of 985. There were seven miles of formed streets and six miles of formed footpaths, with forty three street lamps. A brick town hall and a library with 2.700 volumes. The town consumed 60,000 gallons of water a day.
