Hurricanes-dig-inPalliser’s annual dig-out challenge had some star attractions this week with Victor Vito & Ardie Savea from the Hurricanes joining the competition.

The dig-out challenge was started about 5 years ago to make the job of digging out the pinot noir skins from the tank a bit more fun. The “dig-out” occurs after the tank of around 7 tonnes of Pinot noir has finished fermenting, the wine has been drained out to another tank & all that then remains is the skins which needs removing so it can be placed in the press for the remaining wine to be recovered. As is usually the case everyone’s competitive spirit comes to the fore & generally people are lining up to jump in the tank to dig out faster than the last. … Continue Reading

history-and-progress..... A lone walnut tree stands in the midst of building work outside Winemaker Services (commonly known as the bottling plant) in the Square. It was planted in 1950 and is bearing fruit this autumn as it has done for many years. golf-Club The highlight at the club for the month would have to be the Charity Golf tournament which was held on Friday, 12th. It was such an incredible day where 59 club members and 45 non members played an Ambrose tournament to raise funds for St John. To the players and many sponsors thank you and to Terry Blacktop and his helpers thanks a lot you all put in such a lot of time and effort. The photo was taken at the 8th hole haggle where a lot of money was made if you landed in the circle. Another highlight of the day was a hole in one by Melanie Johanson and a painting by Gay Reed of Lake Ferry fetched a good price at the Auction held at the conclusion of the tournament.
