Meet-your-fire-fighters A couple years after Michael Thomas, a Gold Star and Life Member of the Martinborough Fire Brigade retired from active membership, his son Wayne signed up.  Wayne, known as Tommo to the Brigade, was a green recruit less than 5 years ago but has take on quite a bit of responsibility as a driver and occasionally operating the pump.  He is most comfortable, donning breathing apparatus and leading a crew into the action.  He will be taking a week-long course in Wellington in May for his Certificate as Qualified Fire Fighter. … Continue Reading

In her Annual Report the Martinborough Women’s institute the President, Betty Finlayson, pointed out that although low in numbers the Institute achieved much both in supporting community projects and on a social level.

During the year financial support has been given to the SPCA, the neurosurgical research and the Kidney Kids Foundation.

The social side has included a mid winter dinner at the Pukemanu, a mini flower show and a private showing of the Film ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ complete with Jaffas, caramel popcorn and ice cream. Monthly meetings typically include competitions, demonstrations or guest speakers, and always a fine sense of camaraderie. … Continue Reading

Heartfelt thanks

To the Community, Family and my Brethren at Waihenga-St Johns Freemason Lodge of Martinborough.
As it’s been said, you are not a local until you have lived here for 20 years. 

Jen and I have always been made to feel like part of the community for the past 6 1/2 years. Now we feel we are more than part of the community, we feel we are part of the Martinborough family.
After all the love and  support we have received after the loss of our darling daughter Beatrice; the thoughts and prayers, donations, fundraising, the visits, food, flowers and lawn mowing. This isn’t done for people you just know but for family.

No amount of Thank You’s can show the appreciation that was and is shown by us. Beatrice would have been proud to be apart of the Martinborough family.
