The Martinborough Fire Brigade has always enjoyed incredible support from the community. This has included helping us purchase emergency equipment such as the JAWS of Life and two defibrillators, as well as raise funds for the Brigade van and our Centennial Celebrations in 2006.

Recently, the Brigade decided the hangers along the wall used to hold members emergency turnout gear was just not up to scratch. Boots, coats, gloves and all the vital protective clothing was jammed together on hooks along the length of a wall without dividers, making the rush to get “ready to roll” for a emergency sometimes too chaotic. We needed purpose built lockers to hold all the personal protection gear and nothing standard would do the job at a reasonable cost. … Continue Reading

As we come to the end of a very busy year it is easy to see improvements locally that have occurred. I think the Considine Park committee under the leadership of Heather Gibbs have won first prize. The Park and surrounding area has been transformed with the committee working bees and Martinborough Lions members helping out too. It is looking attractive and there is an ongoing Management Programme which will see some more new fencing and planting in the New Year. 

The Martinborough Playground has also had a freshen up and hopefully it won’t be too long before the “Traveller” (flying fox) is installed. This is a well used area and Jo Guscott has given this a big push with the Community Board.  … Continue Reading

Cooking corner

Honeyed greens
Six cups of cut up assorted green vegetables – sliced courgettes, celery, broccoli, leeks, asparagus, cabbage, cauliflower, green pepper, bean sprouts, etc.

Steam vegetables 8 to 10 minutes until tender but still slightly crisp.
Drain and pour hot dressing over and serve.

Dressing
2 tbsp honey.
2 tbsp vinegar.
1tbsp oil.
1 tsp soy sauce.
1 tbsp finely chopped ginger or 1 clove of finely chopped garlic.
Mix all ingredients together and gently heat until the honey has melted.
