Books for all
As near as we can get to the shortest day, First Church, held their Monster Book Sale on the 15th, 16th and 17th June in the Town Hall. It was a fabulous weekend, kicked off with our guest speaker, well known Wairarapa identity, Gareth Winter. Gareth talked about the Wairarapa Archives and the work they do and also the books that he has published. One of the most well known is Street Wise, the history of how the streets in Martinborough, Featherston, Greytown and Carterton got their names.
Then on Saturday and Sunday the hall was full of bargain hunters and what a wonderful sight it was. From very young children to the older generation, most found something of interest as the selection of books, over all topics, was exceptional.
The Committee would like to sincerely thank those people who very generously donated books, jigsaw puzzles, DVD’s, videos as without your support we would not be able to hold this annual event. This also goes for the large team of volunteers who donate their time to sorting the books, setting up the hall and then being there to answer questions of, ‘ have you seen this author or that title’.
We are thrilled to congratulate Margaret Griffiths on wining the Basket, recipe books and preserves raffle.
We are also extremely grateful to all those people who purchased books, etc; the amount we raised towards the church restoration was a magnificent $5,400.
Once again our sincere thanks.
Pam Colenso on behalf of Committee.
