Conversations with Martinborough’s Winemakers
This winter some of Martinborough’s top winemakers will be hosting a series of wine tasting evenings designed to educate and enthuse locals. With many world class wines grown in and around our wine village, Wines from Martinborough believe it is important to give the local community the opportunity to be some of the greatest champions, and so have created an event designed to explore just what makes our wine so wonderful.
“As well as enjoying Martinborough’s wines, we want people to feel comfortable and confident talking about them to visitors or when they are travelling” explains Margaret Hanson, Wines from Martinborough Chairperson. The winemakers will take people through three different interactive sessions, each focusing on a different type of wine. Participants will get to experience the impact of the local geography and climate as they taste 12 different wines, gaining an understanding of why our local wines are so unique and distinctive compared to other New Zealand wine regions.
The winter series will consist of three different sessions – “The diversity of Martinborough’s White Wines” on Saturday 7th July, led by Helen Masters of Ata Rangi and Pip Goodwin from Palliser Estate; “Pinot Noir – Martinborough’s flagship” on Saturday 21 July, led by Paul Mason from Martinborough Vineyard and Katherine Jacobs from Big Sky, and finally “Martinborough’s surprises – some of our lesser known gems” on Saturday 4th August, led by Lance Redgwell from Cambridge Rd and Strat Canning from Margrain.
Tickets are available from The Wine Centre with individual sessions at $40 each, or can be purchased for the whole series at $90. For further information please contact The Martinborough Wine Centre, 06 306 9040.
