Firstly I would like to wish you all a happy new year. As some of you may know Maori celebrate Matariki, (new year) when the group of stars known as the Pleiades rise in the northeastern sky in late May to Late June.
Hau Ariki Marae is known as ‘Nga Hau e Wha Maere’ which translates to’ The People of the Four Winds’. What that means for our community is that Hau Ariki is a place where all nationalities are welcome.
The marae is traditionally a place where we learn and practice Maori customs (Tikanga), study Maori ancestors (Tipuma) and learn Maori language (te reo).
As a way of welcoming the Wairarapa community back to Hau Ariki, we would like to offer you the opportunity to learn basic Maori language (te reo) at the marae in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere at your own pace in your own way a small koha to cover costs will be required.
Maori or non-Maori, everyone is welcome.
To book your place in the group please contact me by email hawkinsgr@xtra.co.nz
We look forward to having you join us.
No reira nga mihi atu kia koutou
Tena koutou, tena koutou, Tena Tatou katoa
Na Greg Hawkins
Chairman Hau Ariki maere committee
