From the Mayor
Work has begun on fencing the new off-lead dog exercise area in Roberts St and hopefully by the time the Star goes to print, the new facility should be just about ready to receive its first pooches.
A similar sized area in Featherston has been extremely successful with both dogs and owners enjoying the opportunity to socialise with others.
Dog owners who choose to use this new area must remember however that the onus is still on them to have their dogs under control even when off the lead.
They should also continue to carry their plastic bags to clean up after their dog as no one enjoys scraping doggy doos off their shoes.
Although now deemed an ‘off-lead dog exercise area’ this unformed part of Roberts St remains legal road therefore members of the public can continue to walk along it if they wish. They should however expect to meet dogs running free and having a good time.
