“Martinborough – A pleasant place to live”
A publication to entice people to move to Martinborough was discovered recently. No publication date was listed but would appear to be from the early 1960’s. Organised by the Martinborough Progressive Association it detailed weather, section costs (stating price of a residential site at 150-450 pounds), sporting activities, schooling, weekend activities and work opportunities (this being the two timber mills, a flax mill, limeworks, fruit and market gardens, two engineering companies).
A sample of the text read:
“If you’re looking for a place to live that’s going to make for happier, healthier, relaxed living, Martinborough could be the place for you.
“If you’re looking for a town where the people are friendly and the atmosphere relaxed, Martinborough could be your town”.
“If you’re looking for a town that’s a good place to bring up children, Martinborough could be your town”.
There was also mention of the Martinborough Maternity Hospital, newly built (which of course is now Wharekakaka).
