MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB NEWS

February 21, 2012 February 2012, Sports 1 Comment

Greetings readers and very best wishes for 2012.

We at the Club have had a very busy holiday season with a lot of visitors who were all impressed with our course presented to them by “Manpower”; he truly does a very good job.
Club Captain Kris Chamberlain remains at the helm and in December a Thursday was put aside to play for a trophy remembering Neil Smith who passed away 13 months ago. The trophy made by Graham Jacobson was won by an ecstatic Roger Parkinson and Mary Smith presented it to him.

The Thursday Club has not decreased in numbers; in fact it has been quite the opposite during the summer months which have also been boosted at times with the juniors Caleb, George and the Jacobson boys. Some of the highlights from the Thursday Club have been Ash Reed who is the most inconsistent player at the club – one week 45 points the next week 26 points but he had a bit of luck over the break.
Another golfer with amazing talent is Bill Jones; this guy plays unbelievable golf at times and during the last couple of months he has scored under his age of “79”at least three or four times. Bill also finished third in the Wairarapa Shoot-out final held at Featherston in the worst wind ever but unfortunately Bob Goodley went out on the 15th. To those who played in such atrocious conditions I salute you but not the team who didn’t show up until the day after!
The Grumpies are still going strong and I believe the jug count is now up to three; I don’t believe it they must all be playing off the ladies tees!
Bill Crook has come up with a novel idea for a round of golf – six holes of Ambrose, six holes of 4-Ball Best Ball, then six holes of Stableford. It is a pretty unusual combination and I hope he gets the numbers and the weather to make it a good day.

Club Opening day is Saturday, 11 February – an Ambrose event with registration at 11am followed by a draw and shotgun start at midday. Following prize giving at 4.30pm there will be a BBQ and live entertainment with Greg Christianson. All club members are welcome so I’ll see you there. ? ?

Good Golfing & Good Luck
