Patricia Wright

November 4, 2011 November 2011 No Comments

Earlier this year long time Martinborough resident Pat Wright passed away in Perth Western Australia where she was living with her eldest daughter Vicki.

The Wrights arrived in Martinborough 1964 when her husband Dawson took over the Martinborough Pharmacy. Rosemary Ward recalls that she and her husband Ivan arrived shortly after to take over the Martinborough Veterinary Clinic. At that stage both Pat and Rosemary each worked in the respective businesses, which had much in common, they soon became friends. Then over the years with children of similar ages and attending Martinborough School the friendship continued.

Pat would be remembered by most as Martinborough’s long serving , and hard working Mayoress, filling the position for twenty five years (1974 – 1999). Pat was not just a passive Mayoress but also actively involved herself, particularly in social and community initiatives.

However she was also lady of numerous interests and very involved in many organisations including Red Cross, Plunket, Wharekaka and the Catholic Church. In later years Pat became a keen Mah-jong player. Pat is survived by her five children.
