Martinborough Womens Institute
In her Annual Report the Martinborough Women’s institute the President, Betty Finlayson, pointed out that although low in numbers the Institute achieved much both in supporting community projects and on a social level.
During the year financial support has been given to the SPCA, the neurosurgical research and the Kidney Kids Foundation.
The social side has included a mid winter dinner at the Pukemanu, a mini flower show and a private showing of the Film ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ complete with Jaffas, caramel popcorn and ice cream. Monthly meetings typically include competitions, demonstrations or guest speakers, and always a fine sense of camaraderie.
Two members attended a school for cooking judges to extend their expertise in this area.
Quoting the adages that ‘Many hands make light work’ and ‘From a small acorn the mighty oak grows’ the President emphasised although being small in numbers (and they would dearly like to get the numbers up) the report shows what a small group can, and does, contribute to society.
The monthly thought was ‘Nostalgia is the device that removes the ruts and holes from Memory Lane’.
