ART IN THE HEART OF MARTINBOROUGH

December 10, 2012 December 2012 No Comments

Allison Hudson with her recent “Alchemy”.

A great initiative by local artist Allison Hudson and the owner of Village Café Bruce Lawrence is the opening of a new, vibrant art Space in Martinborough.

Opening on the 1st December 2012 and running for 2 months for each exhibition, it will feature the works of up to 10 artists from all over New Zealand in various media such as watercolour, oil, acrylic, photos, and ceramics.  Prices range from $60 – $4000. so there will “Art for All”.

Combined with the unique quality of the works, which compliment the existing boutique shops in Martinborough and the relaxed venue of a café, I am sure this will enhance Martinborough as a “destination”.

I was lucky enough to view some of the pieces for the first exhibition and was really excited about what I saw – from the photographic work by Les Gray from Christchurch who enhances photos with digital technology to the soft but colourful watercolours from Amanda Brett; paintings on palm pods and oils, acrylics and mixed media works of an exceptional standard.

Allison has chosen the artists well and emerging artists work will be considered along with the more established talent.  Artists whose work proves popular will be encouraged to re-exhibit.

The art is sold on a “cash and carry” basis but locals may be able to put a deposit to enable them to pay at a more leisurely pace.

Martinborough is lucky to have entrepreneur’s who are prepared to get out and get organized and I am sure it will prove extremely popular.
