Martinborough Charity Fun Ride

December 10, 2012 December 2012, Sports No Comments

A group of riders tackle one of the a course’s gentle climbs.

Only 70km to go as cyclists in the Martinborough Charity Fun Ride head through Ponatahi. The 20th anniversary Fun Ride raised $8000 for the Martinborough Volunteer Fire Brigade and the South Wairarapa Order of St John.

Bad weather in Wellington affected the number of ‘on the day’ entries, which were down on last year. Organisers Jan and Geoff Lankow were amused before the start to hear several riders phoning Wellington friends to say “come on over, the weather is fine here”.

Geoff thanked the generosity of sponsor companies including Cycle Science, Foley Family Wines, Toast Martinborough, Breadcraft, Leppin, Maxxis, as well as many local companies like Marty Girl Natural Beauty, D’Vine Beauty, Trilogy Skincare, Tirohana Estate and Scotty’s Meats for their support.  “As with all fund-raising events, local and sponsor support is vital”, he said.
