Papers Past
Wairarapa daily Times 1908
This paper is very severe on the police for the prosecution in connection with the Christmas goose and bacon raffle. It says:- If the police are languishing for something to do , let them try to disperse the gangs of idlers who assemble on street corners and annoy passers by with their foul language and insulting remarks.
But it seems the essence of petty spite of the police to start a crusade against the cottager’s Christmas goose raffles or the Chinaman’s pakapoo.
