“Energetic and emotionally vested performances of the highest calibre”.
Andrew Sords, from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, will be in New Zealand in October, fitting his tour here between tours in British Columbia and Ontario. The Greytown Music Group has much pleasure in introducing him to a Wairarapa audience.
At the age of five Sords asked his parents for piano lessons, and shortly afterwards transferred to the violin. As a teenager he won several concerto competitions. However, he was not always encouraged to pursue a career as a soloist, one teacher telling him he had limited chances of ever being able to play the Beethoven concerto with an orchestra. He says “That lit a fire under me! When I was 18, I thought it would be great to play a dozen concerts a year. Now I do that many in a month!”
To try and encapsulate Sords’ career in one article is an almost impossible task. His website lists a huge number of concerts and concertos he performs throughout the USA and Canada, and further abroad. Reviews say “flawless performance”, “demonstrates complete mastery of his instrument”, “pairs maximum delicacy with fire and brilliance”, “the audience could not stop applauding,” “melodious, resonant, expressive, and passionate”

A man of diverse interests, and enthusiastic about supporting social causes, Sords has competed in the charity fundraiser “Pittsburg Dancing with the Stars”, and has performed numerous times for LGBT Outreach, and various other charities.
