You may have seen a new sign pop up on SH 53 just past the bridge heading into town and wondered who was behind it. It’s our local man Richie Nation, driving the “Build a Bridge” campaign to push for commitment from the Central Government through in conjunction with Fran Wilde and SWDC, something Richie says Fran Wilde is 100% behind.
Richie spoke to Kieran McAnulty (Labour) who is pushing for a bridge replacement as the current bridge “Is not fit for purpose” and Mike Butterick (National) who is “Monitoring the communities concerns”. Richie’s plan is to get commitment from the parties to replace the bridge, now being perfect timing with an election coming up this year.
Many members of Martinborough’s business community are also 100% behind the campaign with many donating funds for a ‘war chest’ to help with the campaign signage. The public will see further signage go up shortly around Martinborough businesses shortly and Richie hopes to have bumper stickers for the public who support the ‘Build a new bridge and we will get over it’ campaign.
