What is it about Beethoven?

July 2026

And what’s so special about his string quartets?

Come and find the answers to these questions at Unwrapping Beethoven, an ‘in-conversation concert’, on Sunday 2 August 2026, at 3.00 pm in the Martinborough Town Hall.

Unwrapping Beethoven is performed and presented by the Elouan Quartet, which comprises four leading members of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra: Jessica Oddie and Anna van der Zee (violin), Alexander McFarlane (viola) and Ken Ichinose (cello).

“This event will weave together discussion and live performance to shed light on Beethoven’s compositional voice,” says first violinist Jessica Oddie.

“We will look at the evolution of the quartet and the interpretive decisions that bring this music to life. Come along to get a fresh perspective on these remarkable works and deepen your connection to the music.”

Part of the Martinborough Music Festival’s programme for its tenth year, Unwrapping Beethoven will be an intimate musical experience, inviting you inside the world of Beethoven’s string quartets. Tickets are $40 and can be booked at iTicket.

Bookings for all the Martinborough Music Festival concerts are now open at iTicket.
