It is obvious that reducing speed in the vicinity of schools especially during pick up and drop off times is a sensible solution. Likewise providing a safer environment for cyclists and people walking is also common sense.
It is also worth examining the number of crashes that occurred in the South Wairarapa District in 2025; the location of these crashes, the reason contributing to the crash, as well as the level of serious or minor injury that occurred.

Because a crash may have multiple factors there will be more total factors than crashes, resulting in factors totalling more than 100% of all crashes.
34 crashes occurred on SH2 with another 5 on SH 53 and a further 4 on Underhill Rd.
In total there were 81 crashes, two of these being fatal and a further sixteen with serious injuries.
The number of crashes occurring where attention was diverted was 6 with four occasioning minor crashes and 2 non injury crashes.
