Pick your own returns to Molewood Orchard

Mar 2026

Molewood Orchard is opening for Pick Your Own apples and pears for the fourth season running. The orchard will open for PYO each weekend from 28 February until King’s Birthday weekend.

The orchard supplies fruit during the harvest season to local supermarkets and fruit and vege co-ops, as well as opening for PYO during the weekend.

Three generations of the Cooke family will be working together on the orchard during the harvest season.

Merran Cooke says the family is looking forward to welcoming the public to the orchard again. She says each year there’s a real mixture of returning visitors from the Wairarapa and further afield as well as newcomers who have only just heard about the orchard. She says one of the things the family really enjoys is seeing the wide variety of people who come to the orchard with friends and multi-generational family groups.

“It’s lovely to see people enjoying the experience of picking fresh fruit off the trees, and the way so many different people from the community come together to contribute to events in the orchard”.

The orchard’s picnic meadows continue to be popular with families, and are also available for hire for events such as weddings. In addition to the regular PYO weekends, the family is also working on a lineup of events for the season, including the Greytown Apple Harvest Festival on Easter Saturday, 4 April.
