The new year has started off with a bang with the club’s biggest day of the year the annual pro-am on the 22nd January.
This year saw major sponsors, once again, Holmes Construction and a welcome to Gazley Motors. Hospice Wairarapa was chosen as the charity for the day, and they took home around $10,000 from their auction, BBQ and share of the day, a great amount towards the awesome work they do in our community. Thank you also to the Lions Club for manning the BBQ.
A big thank you to all the sponsors, too numerous to mention in this article, without you the event could not go ahead.
Forty teams and professionals took to the damp fairways with those teeing off in the morning taking the brunt of the worst weather, things brightened up for the afternoon tee off time. Provincial Insurance sponsored a prize of $10000 for a hole in one and ‘the butcher’ Scotty Reid got a hole in one – unfortunately for Scotty the prize was for the 16th hole, and he did it on the 8th. Still a great achievement but the prize money stayed safe!!

The winning professional was Jordan Loof from Royal Wellington who shot a very respectable 65 (7 under). The amateur team prize was won by Ailsa and Nigel Malneek and Pete Griffiths, great to see the prize of golf at Cape Kidnappers and accommodation at Te Mata Lodge going to a Martinborough team who do so much for the club.

There were a host of other prizes including Wharekauhau Country Estate, Parehua Resort, The White Swan, Karahui Wine Bar and Restaurant, Paterson & Co, Union Square Bistro & Bar, Poppies, Kokodeli Café and All Teed Up. Thank you for your generous support.
The Friday TGIF (Thank Gin its Friday) has been a hit with gin cocktails using Runholder gin being created by Tucky and Tamyka behind the bar. The Saturday BBQ night has also been busy, unfortunately we can’t say we’ve had the best BBQ weather but there’s time yet – surely summer must return!
Finally farewell to our outgoing Captain of eight years Andy Morison. Enjoy a well-deserved break from leading the club through the biggest change its ever seen. We welcome our new Captain, Mark Gray who was voted in at the AGM held in mid-December. There were also three life members announced, Dayle Scrimshaw, Trevor Peterson and John Thompson in recognition of their work and contribution to the building of the new clubhouse.
