Find a loved one with Plotbox

Feb 2026

It’s easier to find loved ones and others you’re searching for at the Martinborough Cemetery now, thanks to a new sign displaying a QR code that leads directly to digitised information on Plotbox, a tool on South Wairarapa District Council’s website.

Three new signs with QR codes were installed over the past month at three of the four cemeteries in South Wairarapa; Martinborough, Featherston and Greytown. The QR code leads directly to digitised information on Plotbox, a tool that was launched on the Council’s website in 2022 for all of its cemeteries.

The accessibility of the code on the new signs makes it faster to find people because when you scan the QR code it leads directly to an extensive online database of old records that have been digitised to enable the community to track down the location of a loved one.

The Waihenga Cemetery in Martinborough has its available records digitised in Plotbox but does not have a new sign in place. This small cemetery is home, however, to the plots of some historic local figures, including George Pain Snr while his son, George Pain (of Pain and Kershaw) is buried in the main Martinborough Cemetery.

Scan the QR code at the cemeteries to find out more or read about the launch of Plotbox.
