Tis the season to be jolly, yea right! Always very busy on the farms this time of year especially with young stock, getting crops in the ground and grass harvesting etc. And with the weather improving, I hope all you busy people, especially those with kids, take time to have a break regularly. For your sake, and those around you, yes!
On top of all that I like to think is the time for giving, if possible? I enjoy my annual planting of one acre of sweet corn to grow and sell for Foodbank, Women’s Refuge and Ukraine mainly. Lota work but very satisfying. The old adage, giving is far more satisfying than taking?

A big problem for many has raised its ugly head recently. The bloody damaging winds and our resilience. Not just our insurance policy but the ability to function. We have just given up and bought a portable generator for the cowshed for ongoing security. Locally, not a lot, but do notice a lot of visitors, tourist driving out to the coast.
Pirinoa school has an unveiling of a Māori carving for the school and community, which the public is welcome to attend. Wednesday 26th November 9 -9.30am

On the theme, taking a break. Surfing for Farmers has started at Riversdale beach. Boards, wet suits and encouragement supplied. I think it’s on Thursday evenings but ring Richard Moore 021 313 877 if interested. Very popular around the country I hear.
Irrigation is very important to many farmers in the Wairarapa. Recent geostrata surveying has changed ground water knowledge for many in the region.
If you are on restrictions or think your consent could be upgraded, contact the GWRC or your hydrologist to see where you sit. Irrigation NZ is running a course to assess your water efficiency use in the new year in the Hawkes Bay. Visit the Irrigation NZ website for more details if interested. Enjoy the summer.
