Ngawi Hitaround Golf – Club Champs. Labour weekend out at the coast is always a busy one, so with wild weather leading up to the weekend everyone was hoping it wouldn’t be a case of gale force golf for the Bill Fenwick Memorial Trophy Club Champs and importantly the power would be restored so the beverages kept cold.
Saturday’s weather turned out to be a good day and despite the breeze, Sandra and Megan registered thirty-eight players for the 18-hole tournament, that meant twice around our 9-hole course, something some locals aren’t used to as they become like homing pigeons and start to go elsewhere!
Back to the Ngawi Community Hall where Alison, Shona, Liz and Maxine had put on an afternoon feast. There were many winners on the day but congratulations to Craig Hayes and Tina Day, winners of the Club Champs and to Sandra Petersen and Matt Hartley who won the inaugural ‘Ross Taylor Memorial Cups’, thank you to the Taylor family for donating these as Ross was a big part of our coast loving community. Thank you to all the sponsors, we appreciate your support.
The Ngawi course wouldn’t be here without the hard work of volunteers over the last 30 years and the kindness of the Kawakawa 1D2 Trust and leasees who let us use the land. Thank you to everyone who helps but especially Trevor Hawkins (who may as well sleep there), Keith Rayner, Neil Day and Grant McGhie who make sure all the mowing gets done, the greens watered, and maintenance carried out – it’s looking so good and a wonderful entrance to our Village. If you haven’t yet played on our quirky little course right on the coast, green fees only $10 per person and everyone is welcome.
